Pink Saturday

My contribution to Pink Saturday this week are these two sweet little hand crochet dresses that my daughter and then my nieces wore about forty years ago. The first little pink one is made with a shell stitch - can you see the sweet little pink buttons. This was made by a friend that wanted a little girl so badly but had cute little boys instead. The second was made by my husband's cousin. I don't think you can see it but the pockets have her initials crochet in - B and C. I wanted a little girl but was too afraid to wish for it, so I had her named picked out - Brian Todd. When the docs said it was a girl - I had not picked a name for a girl so I had to come up with something quick - hence, Brian became Bre'ana (the e is pronounced like an A) and for the middle name - Vania (the last five letters of Pennsylvania, the homestate of my brother-in-law who is more like a brother to me). Bre'ana Vania. I love that name. But she wasn't very keen on it growing up because not many could pronounce it. Now back to the dresses, those dresses were passed down to my nieces and finally came back to me. One day I will pass them on to my daughter - I hope she will treasure them as much as I have.

  4. These are just precious and pricless to you.
I did the same thing about wanting a girl and being afraid to wish for one. We had a little boy first and when I was expecting again, I just wanted a little girl sooooo badly. I had a boys name..no girl, tho. So, like you, when they said, it's a tiny beautiful little girl, I thought,
uh ooo....gotta think of a pretty name fast. :))
    Happy Pinks..

  12. How wonderful to have had a daughter and cute story about her name. LOVE the crocheted dresses. My aunt gave me a gorgeous pink sweater set that she knit for the girl I never had...so I saved it for a granddaughter that I never had! So maybe some great great grandchild will get it someday when I'm long gone! xoxo Nancy
